Kim K's Wakeup Routine - Rise or Shine?
Kim Kardashian is infamous for her workouts; but what most of us don't think about is the fact that she gets up at 5:45 AM every morning to workout. You read that right, EVERY morning, even weekends. HOW?
For this review of Kim Kardashian's lifestyle my original plan was to try to spend a week doing her workouts, but that seemed too easy.... so I decided, what I really wanted to try, was to wake up that early every morning. The early bird gets the worm, right?
(If you're interested in her workouts, I will provide links at the bottom of this post.)
So the first thing I figured out before the week started, is the fact that to wake up at 5:45 AM and still get 8 hours of sleep, I have to go to bed at 9:45 PM. That's probably about 2 hours earlier than I normally go to bed, so I'm thinking that may be the hardest part of getting into this Kim K routine. I also stocked up on some Melatonin to make sure I could actually get to sleep early enough to wake up in the morning.
Day 1
Going to bed early on a Sunday is the last thing I wanted to do. Not only is the next day a Monday, but now my weekend seemed shorter too. Waking up was not much easier. The sun is not even up yet! Did everyone know that sunrise is at about 7AM now?! I am definitely drinking 2 cups of coffee today. Is a super blend energy drink part of Kim K's morning routine? I am going to have to look into this.....
Day 2
So waking up before the sun seemed easier the second time around, but what I was not prepared for was how tired I was the night before. Adjusting my bedtime and my wake-up time made my day feel much longer. And the struggle was very real this morning. The other part of my struggle is what to do with myself for the 2 extra hours I have every morning. I am going to assume that Kim's morning routine includes waking up her kids and getting them ready, getting her makeup and hair done, but Those aren't things on my morning agenda.
Day 3
So today was not a great day in the Kim K routine. I am EXHAUSTED. I am tired when I wake up, I am tired during the day, and I am tired by the time it's time to go to bed (at least this part is a good thing!) In lieu of trying to find morning I activities, I sat on the couch wrapped in a blanket playing games on my cellphone. I am up, and that's what counts, right? I am also starting to feel like the early bedtime is taking time out of my day, I have much less time to do anything after work and before bed.
Day 4
I may be starting to figure out why waking up early and working out is part of Kim's routine. I decided to try a small morning workout to help my energy for the day... at least the morning. And honestly, it felt good. I did a 30 minute yoga workout (checkout Yoga with Adriene on YouTube), and was very happy to have gotten this into my routine for the day. I wonder how the Karadshians fit work and raising kids and hanging out with each other and going to bed early into one day?
Day 5
Waking up today was harder than it has been the last few days. My friends asked me to go out to dinner last night and I decided to try it. I knew it wouldn't be easy since I am still getting used to the whole early bedtime thing, and it turned out to be much harder than I thought. Once I got home I felt like I needed downtime and didn't go to bed until late. How does Kim K manage an early morning routine with FOUR KIDS?! And a social life? A celebrity social life? I have no idea how she does this.
Day 6
I decided to workout again after the energy it gave me two days ago. I found myself, again, only drinking one cup of coffee, so I am starting to think this Kardashian routine might be worth a serious consideration. It's Friday night and my friends want to go out, but honestly, I would rather be going to bed early and waking up early again tomorrow.
Day 7
I quit, I am sleeping in tomorrow, this is definitely one way I don't want to be like Kim Kardashian.
So what did this week teach me about Kim Kardashian's daily morning lifestyle and routine? I too can be a morning person if I choose to be. Once I got the hang of having a couple of extra hours to myself in the morning, I actually really enjoyed it. I found that when my mornings were less rushed, my general attitude for the day improved. I found a small space of time to workout in, which as we all know, is best in the mornings, and that for me, this part of Kim Kardashian's life is only sustainable as long as I don't have kids or an active social life.
After a whole week of going to bed early and waking up early, here are the tips and tricks I recommend if you're thinking about trying this Kardashian routine:
1. Eat dinner earlier than you're used to
2. Figure out how important having plans on a weeknight is to you
